Re: XYWRITE digest 2541

Well, what I use most in XyWrite when editing a sheaf of
periodicals, including Weird Tales, which was founded way back in
1923:
Search -- where the search string can include wild cards -- and
change invisible and change visible (all work much faster and
more reliably than the MicroSquish version)

Highlight, then copy, move, or delete a block of text
Generate (and delete on the fly) macros called up with an [alt][letter] combination, then use them when writing or editing, such as a complicated place name or recurring phrase in a story
Generate and macros that include not only blocks of text, but
also commands like 'change indenting' or 'change line spacing' or
'insert current date.' -- very useful for setting up headings and
format when writing correspondence, especially correspondence
with lots of boiler plate. It's lots easier than having such a
letter as a file, then calling up that file, copying it under
anotehr file name, filling in blanks, and so on. Our most
frequently used such set of macros uses 36 macros accessed with
[alt][number-or-letter], plus a few [control][letter] ones.
Things like the command-line calculator and more arcane forms of
programming are useful, but we use them less often than the ones
above.
