286, 386...

Is there a possibility that hardware differences or CPU speed differences would
cause an XPL program to work on a 286 but bomb on a 386? Is is possible that
the difference between MS-DOS 3.3 and MS-DOS 4.01 is the culprit? Or different
BIOSI've written a program that works beautifully on my NEC 286 (but slow) but
bombs almost instantly on an Everex 386. Suggestions?
