Your explanation sounds right to me. That's why one would *not* want to give
the command:

>unl 0,0F

That would unload the underlying files as well, although the keyboard would
still continue to function normally. The radical version would cause a problem
if, say, you issued a subsequent spell command. Xywrite would then be unable to
find your pers.spl file. A simple "unl 0" however would keep pers.spl intact.
