As a long time Mac user I would wait on this upgrade. There are a lot of under the hood changes affecting many apps and Mail is a bit buggy.

I'm the last person to be answering this query -- not a Mac user and
never have been -- so I may as well be the first. A quick bit of
Googling reveals that someone has put together a 64-bit Boxer:

I have no idea of whether, or how well, it works (nor do I have any way
of testing it), but there at least appears to be a glimmer of hope.
However, the threshold question, I think, is whether there are
compelling reasons to upgrade to Catalina, or at least whether to
upgrade now. And on that, I'll defer to the Mac users among us.
