Re: OT: Whine

Carl,

I'll check out the sound and get back to you. Just off the cuff and not yet heard, I'm thinking something to do with the PSU.  I've had that on a couple systems, and I take it as a harbinger of possible trouble, at some point down the road.  Not generally recommended mind you, but if I rap sharply on the case, it may quiet down for awhile . . . but in time is apt to return.  The PSU does not last indefinitely, particularly if you run the system fairly hard over a long period of time.  I've gone through a few of these -- on different rigs -- and replacing them is not a ton of fun.

My PC, usually quite silent, has started making a whining noise. I've
recorded a few seconds of it here:

(Pay attention to the high-pitched sound, not the ambient shushing from
the fan.)

Does any hardware maven among us have an idea of what may be causing
it, and what the fix might be?

Thanks in advance for any tips.
