Jon,
As noted previously, Autosave is governed by settings.dfl directives as 
follows (which you can also put in startup.int):

; AOP is autosave path, directory must exist before applying setting
df AOP=C:\XY437\AUTOSAVE\
; AOT is autosave timer, AOT=minimum_time[,maximum_time] (,max_time 
defaults to min_time+5 minutes), 0,0 = no autosave
df AOT=10
If AOP points to a new directory, autosave does not create it. So, try 
pointing AOP to an existing directory.
