Re: searching files without extensions

Harry, ending with period doesn't work for me, at least not in Win7.
With the other issue, I'm assuming that higher-cost Win7 in XP mode is the ticket for running XyWrite in Win7-64?

Many thanks !!!

I don't know if it works in every case, but I have had success with ending with a period. E.g., FILENAME. where this not a sentence-ending period.
I have a huge backlog of XyWrite files without extensions. And I foolishly go on creating new ones every day. Worse, I invent extensions useful to me if not to operating systems, such as ba0(-9), etc., for various backup drafts, etc. etc.
Is there a known, foolproof way to get Windows search to index
files without extensions? Or to get it to treat files with unknown
extensions as files that should be treated as text files and
indexed accordingly? I have tried, in the past, adding blank
extensions and it doesn't seem to work. Maybe there's something I'm
doing wrong? Or maybe it just can't be done?
Obviously, I don't have this problem with dtSearch, but I am not
using it on my main system at the moment, because I don't have the
disk capacity for its huge index, having recently 'gone over' to
SSD storage, which I find so much faster than a conventional hard
drive, not to mention quieter and cooler.
I'd like Windows search to be able to do a better job with my
XyWrite-created files. Is there anything I can do? Or should I just
go through and rename them all '.txt', which would solve the
problem in a trice?
Also, I have a new travelling system I am trying out, a Dell
Alienware m11x. This runs 64-bit Windows Home Premium. Apparently,
I have to upgrade to a higher level of Windows before I can run XP
under Win7 ? - - this in order to get XyWrite running on the
system. I have a DVD with a higher Windows 7 license, but . . . no
DVD ! Do I figure out a way around this (like an ISO file on a
memory stick) or is there some other way to get XyWrite running on
Windows Home Premium 64?

Many thanks - - Bill
