Carl's remark (27 Mar) on Trotsky's ruling out the first person in
historical narration, "Nothing Bolshie about it," is true enough --
perhaps excepting certain theoretical Marxist biases against aggrandizing
indivuals that it may reflect.
Well, actually, now that you've asked ... there are other theoretical
Marxist biases:
"Consciousness is therefore from the very beginning a social product, and
remains so as long as men exist at all." (Marx and Engels, _The German
Ideology_ (International Publishers, 1947), p. 35.
Michael Berliner wrote: "Without openly attacking objectivity, Marxism
destroys the concept of objectivity at its roots ... Since there are [for
dialectical materialism] no principles of logic that hold for all men,
independent of their economic class, there is no way to evaluate any claim
to objective truth." ("Marxism Versus Objectivity," _The Objectivist
Forum_, April 1980, p. 7 & p. 10).
