Re: 3.5

Carl, unfortunatley the printer file is designed to control the printer. When
you choose options on the printer itself... the printer code which is sent from
our printer driver overrides the printers settings. This is basically how most
software packages work. We have set up the printer file with PT (Printer
Tables) which are numbered from 1 to 19. Each table controls the font which is
printed. For example, PT 1 will print draft quality - 10 cpi. PT 3 prints
Courier (proportional - letter quality). If you call the printer file to the
screen and execute a *search* for the string "PT=1", you can then scroll
through all of the PT tables to view what font is associated with what PT Table
number. After you have made note of all the fonts and PT numbers of the fonts
which you would like to print, enter the PT number in your document at the
point which you want that font to take effect. To enter the command, place the
cursor before the text you want to be printed in the particular font... then
press F5 and type PT #, where # is the table number of the font. An embedded
triangle (delta) will be placed in the document at the cursor position. I
recommend keeping a list of the various PT numbers next to your PC for future
documents.

Concerning the form feed problem... our recommendation as to the use of tractor
feed or friction feed paper is as follows... With the power to the printer OFF,
feed the paper into the printer so that the perforation of the paper is lined
up with the top of the printhead (basically stating that the first line of the
paper is where the printhead would print on if the pins were to fire. You do
NOT want to incorporate (or adjust the printer for) a top margin, by rolling
the paper up an inch or so. Again, the software control the margins, page size,
etc. You should also ensure that your XyWrite program is set up with an FD
(Form Depth) command of 66. If you are not sure of the setting... place it at
the top of your document (F5..FD 66 ENTER). Finally, with these areas covered,
XyWrite will automatically bring the form to the approriate top-of-form after
printing each page. Remember, the printer itself should be set to "factory
default settings"... the program will control the printer with software
commands.

If you wish to control the printer from the printer itself, my only
recommendation would be to load the printer driver 3GENERIC.PRN. This driver
sends NO software codes specific to the printer. If you do this however, you
may still have problems with form feed.
