Increasing the screen length in Window Mode

Hello All!
I have a simple question, one that I think might even have been answered in the past. I have tried
to find the subject in the archives, but have been unsuccessful.
First the basics: I write with Xy 3.55, using Win95. My monitor has a 15 inch screen (14 inch
viewable), with its resolution set at 800 x 600.
I prefer writing in Xywrite with a full screen. Full screen in Windows, however, has its negatives.
If you want to cut and paste in and out of a DOS document, you have to switch to window mode first
(pressing Alt-Enter), a time wasting extra step.
I have been trying to get Xywrite set up so that it can work in window mode and still cover my
entire screen. Here is what I have done so far:
1. Windows limits the window sizes of DOS programs. I have used the advice of a webpage written by
Al Fasoldt (I have lost the web address) which suggests a way to change the settings in my
system.ini file to give me more Dos window size options. By making my DOS Font size (under
Properties) 10x20, I have been able to increase the window size somewhat, but not enough to cover
the bottom fourth of my screen.
2. I have downloaded freeware fonts from http://www.uwe-sieber.de/dosfon_e.html, including the program ConsoleBlackFill.exe which makes black the part of the screen not covered by Xywrite. However, in Win95 the window has a bright, white border. If I place that window at the top of my screen, I can hide the top and side borders, but the bottom window border is still visible, and very annoying.
Here is my question:
Is there some way to increase the number of lines in a Xywrite 3.55 screen, thereby making the
window size longer when Xywrite is in windows mode. Right now Xyrite has a vertical height of 25
lines. In Windows mode these 25 lines only fill about 3/4 of the screen. If I could add about 5
lines to the bottom of the screen, I could make windows mode fill the entire screen, as well as
increase the amount of material visible to me at any time.
I have tried adding the Xywrite SL=30 command to my prn file, which according to my Xy manual will
increase the number of screen lines. After making this change, however, the cursor seems to be able
to scroll down five more lines, but these extra lines are not visible. The cursor merely scrolls out
of sight, below the ugly bottom window border.
Is there some setting in my monitor or in Windows that I need to change to make the SL setting work?
Or is there some setting in Windows that will allow me to fill the screen in some other way? I
remember how someone on the xywrite listserv adjusted their settings so that they could use XY with
a monitor turned so that its longest side was vertical rather than horizontal. If I remember
correctly, they were able to see far more than 30 lines in this mode.
I hope I have explained my problem clearly. Any help is truly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
