Dos Box
Excuse my ignorance as I do not know what you mean by a dos box. On my
Hitachi Note Book, a very unreliable mechanism, I have a MS-DOS prompt (icon)
on my main screen, I also have a shortcut to Xy3. If I take this route to
launch XyWrite, I will be fortunate if I can carry on before it stutters as
the Function keys refuse to perform such as F5, F10 and others.
Of course as I later learnt there is an alternative by restarting in dos
mode. This seems to solve the problem as far as XyWrite is concerned. Now the
Hitachi which I have had for about four years, seems not only slow but the
battery even after recharging it a number occasions, has ceased to power the
unit and I had to resort to the mains. In other words, it no longer served
the function of being portable.
Consequently, I would like to know what note book, reasonable priced,
would those members who recently purchased one, recommend.
I am pleased to hear the remarks of Robert Holmgren regarding XP, the
stability of Xy4 with its versatile U2 file of many useful XPL programs.
Carl recently at my insistence added a menu to it so that I had easy access
to those I use often. Because of the accumulation of writings over many
years, I find Callnext (from the U2 collection) as one of my favorites. By
adding the XP function to it, it now opens any program that I have written or
collected to open in expanded view,
