Dan--Really sorry about the length, but I had the time and, given
the widespread confusion about PostScript, wanted to be thorough
before any discussion. (Funny ... yesterday's snow was New York
City's first this winter too.)
I nonetheless omitted one fundamental, that PS also is a *page
description language*, so the interpreter treats the page as a
graphical whole. Also:
Diacritical mark position is in the font description, so weird
placement just doesn't happen. I really feel PS would erase many
of the typographic problems
I see described here.
