Good morning again, Harry.
PS on that cursor visibility issue on this laptop. My use of colors
compounds the problem.
Your comments made me stop and think -- so I tried out (just now) not going
to full-screen mode, to remember why I felt I couldn't work in it .... (I do
have cursor big and blinking) -- but I work in overstrike unless I'm
inserting something .... (My program hangs up sometimes in insert on a long
line .... not a real problem .... and I prefer overstrike anyway) ....
(I think what I had to do to find the cursor was to hit the insert key --
this was a pain!) ....
But -- hmm.... yes, I can see the cursor in my normal font and color, even
in overstrike ....
I didn't like the line spacing (I remember tinkering with that too, and
couldn't get it spread out any, without losing too many lines) ....
But the main problem seems to be that I use colors a lot. Essential to
efficiency in my work. The cursor doesn't pop out at me in enough of the
colors. And yes, I tried different colors. (I make use of about 5 of the
modes, just for color.) My final product doesn't need color -- I am using
the colors in my onscreen editing-thinking process. (This is only one thing
I'd be giving up if I had to work in the expensive indexing package I bought
a few years ago.)
I don't know why full-screen mode solves the problem. But it did. This
laptop would have gone to eBay or something, if that hadn't changed. (In
case you've forgotten from my first message, full-screen suddenly started
working. I had done nothing that could have fixed it, except run a Gateway
BigFix. I wrote them to thank them, and try to get some insight. They
denied responsibility.)
Marge
PS -- pardon cyberstyle and probably unmatched parens, but I'm in a hurry
....
