I'm a believer--keyboard cleaning

Okay, this is not really Xy-related, but the volume of posts has been low.
I have a Prokey / MaxiSwitch programmable keyboard. I was having troubles with my R--sometimes double-Rs, sometimes no Rs, sometimes okay.
I just took the thing completely apart and washed it thoroughly, using
windex, water, and a little steel wool on one part. Amazingly, it fixed my
problem. I'm no longer R-challenged.
Someone on the list mentioned that you could put a kbd into the dishwasher,
without having to disassemble it. Having now seen the insides of a modern
keyboard, I can believe that. The components of my keyboard were: plastic,
rubber, and an aluminum sheet. There was one small green circuit board
which I separated out and didn't subject to any cleaning. But maybe you can
run that through the dishwasher, too. Or would the heat cycle harm the chips?
