glitch putting Xywrite on Windows XP

I've just put Xy on an XP Win computer without any problem -- but for some reason, the thesaurus function isn't working. When I hit Control T, I get the message 'File not found E:\WINDOWS\System32\
(E is my local hard drive).
When I go into e:\xy, the thesaurus is there. And if I create a new file in e:\xy, I can use it. But not in my other Xywrite directories.
Maddeningly, I had exactly the same experience the last time I put Xy on a Win XP computer, which was five years ago.
Then, I fixed it by correcting a mistake in the Path to XY. The corrected path (in E:\autoexec.bat) is PATH=E:\WINDOWS;E:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;E:\XY
That's what I now have ... but the thesaurus is still missing. I don't use it often -- but it's maddening not to have everything in XY available to me.
Does anyone have a suggestion for what's causing this and what would fix it?
