Re: OT: some questions for our Apple + Parallels Users

I have no certainty as to the "provenance" of that XP: all I can say so far is that it is XP Pro, Version 2002, SP3.  Even after I might restore the circa 2014 image to a bare hard drive, I would think that connecting it to the internet would be unduly risky.  (Some say otherwise, but I have no confidence in that . . . . )  I know that it was a legitimate Windows XP, installed way back when that rig was built by our then consultant.  Most likely it was retail.  There are utilities that can extract a license key from the Registry, if this has been lost.  Even worst case, there are license keys you can find online.  I doubt MS would be of any help -- they washed their hands of XP quite some time ago.

Manual,

Great links. Parallels may be a good choice for run-of-the-mill situations.

Parallels relies on a working computer for transfer. This means that an
old image is not enough, and you will need a working XP computer with
correct communications capability. vmWare might do the trick by
converting the image. Still, if the XP OS is OEM, you will need a new
license, too.
