Tables and programming don't have menus finessed yet, but are functional
from the command line.
Default settings are changed in Tools - Preferences, and it takes some
poking around to find everything you want to change. The main NB.DLG
file is in the NBWin directory. In the NBWin\Users\Defaults directory,
the management files you can manually edit are NB.DFL, NB.INI, and
NB.KBD, plus NBSTART.INI. There are also Ibidem.ini and Orbis.ini files
there.
The Help menu has major categories on the first page, getting more
detailed as you go deeper. The XyWin menu, by comparison, has a very
detailed entry page that takes a lot of scanning to find what you want.
NBWin's help file is smaller, but the information seems more dense, or
concentrated, than XyWin's. It has also grown steadily since the first
program release, and seems destined to continue to expand to include
missing topics.
This age of no printed manuals really hurts, after magnificent manuals
in the earlier days of both NB and Xy. Help screens take up too much
screen real estate, and hyperlinks are not the joy to follow that their
designers may imagine. A second monitor for the online help might solve
some of the problem even while consuming the rest of your (physical)
desktop. Harumph.
