Re: OT WiFi vulnerability

Thanks for posting that, Flash.  I saw a short article on that yesterday, accompanied by a video that kept hanging a few seconds into playing.

I have a Cisco router that was set up for me by Lewis R., a couple years back.  It is running DDWRT (would have to check on the version).   I had attempted to contact him a few times about some further home network adjustments, but it appears that he has gotten too busy for any such considerations.  I am leery about inadvertently changing or undermining anything that he originally did . . . but, at the very least, I would like to address this newly uncovered issue.  Would that be at a strictly firmware level, with *no* bearing on the DDWRT (software ?) working on top of it ?  Not much of an idea where to start, though.

Subject: OT WiFi vulnerability

Y'all,

There is a very serious flaw in WiFi security which affects literally
all WiFi clients, including iPhones, iPads, and Android devices, and
and WLAN access points, world wide. Here's the web site which revealed
the flaw:

My advice:

1. contact your hardware manufacturers, both client devices and WLAN
access points, and get firmware updates. If you have WiFi on your
DSL/broadband thingy from a local service provider, contact your local
service provider for firmware updates.

1a. but do read the caveats on iPhone/iPad 11.x.x updates first
because this vulnerability has not been addressed by Apple.

2. If possible, reduce the power output on your WLAN access point.
This reduces the range of coverage and means that a potential attacker
must get closer and potentially reveal himself. Ideally, your WLAN
coverage should stop at your house/apt. walls and not irradiate half
the neighborhood.
