I've been very happy with Windows XP Inside Out, from
Microsoft Press. I paid up for the Deluxe edition, which is hardbound and
includes the text of the book on CD. It's very clearly and helpfully
written, and written for people who know their way around computers, but
aren't about to start learning the deep innards of the OS.
