Fonts and display

This is probably a very low level question for the experts on the list, but
I am confused about fonts and how/when they display.

In the good ol' days, before Windows 95, when I had something in bold
(looking at it in DRAFT mode) it was in bold.

Now it appears in a smaller, not bold, font. Very irritating, though not fatal.

The only difference that I can see was that under Windows 3.1 my
autoexec.bat did things with CODE pages which I never understood. These do
not get loaded in Windows 95. The "device does not support it" I am told.

Any thoughts?
