XyWrite is the most intellectually demanding word-processor ever made.
Anyone who can use XyWrite is capable of performing the twelve steps
described below. Many of those steps consist entirely of clicking a
"Next" button. You don't need to read the manual. I never did.
This procedure will perform a one-time backup; once you have done this,
you can go back and create a recurring scheduled backup by working in
the Options tab mentioned in step 11.
1. Install the program and start it.
2. In the sidebar at the left, under Tasks, click Backup.
3. When you see "Welcome to the backup wizard" click Next
4. In the Volumes to Backup dialog, put a check mark next to the drive
or drives that you want to backup. (It won't hurt to include any that
have an asterisk but no drive letter, because those are the hidden
folders in your hard drive needed to boot modern versions of Windows.)
5. Click Next.
6. In the Backup Name and Designation dialog, click the Browse button
and navigate to the drive where you want to the backup file to be (e.g.
a USB drive). Select (highlight) that drive and click Open.
7. You should now see a dialog with the drive letter that you selected
(and the specific folder if you chose one) in the top field and one one
or more rows that look something like "C_VOL" and "C:\ (Windows)" in the
table below it. These are examples, and only examples! The actual names
on your system will probably be different from these examples!!
8. Click Next.
9. In the Specify the backup schedule dialog, select "Now" if it is not
already selected ("Now" will be selected if you are backing up to a
removable drive like a USB stick.) "Full" will also be selected; don't
change it.
10. Click Next.
11. In the Options dialog, don't change anything, but click Next. (You
can study these options when performing a recurring scheduled backup to
a non-removable drive.)
12. In the Wizard Summary dialog, "Excecute now" will be selected. Click
Finish.
Your backup will now begin, and will stop automatically. You can close
the ShadowProtect window at any time. The backup process will run in the
background.
I don't think this is too difficult for any XyWrite user to attempt.
