buggy conversion filters

Does anyone know how to get footnote formats to go correctly from XyWrite
(4.017 DOS) to Word[Im]Perfect (5.1 DOS)? WordPort, which is usually a
better conversion program than the ubiquitous WordForWord, sticks in a
tab stop command that has to be changed by hand in every single note
(because WP won't let you search and replace codes the way XyWrite will).
WFW doesn't seem to send any formatting codes over, but that means if the
footnote comes at the end of an extract, or extended quotation (as it all
too often does in scholarly MSS), the note prints with the tabs and
margins of the extract, not of normal text. Does the DataViz program work
right? Many thanks for any advice.
