Russ, I forgot that you're using Xy3+. Here's the same routine, or anyway
the same result. It's much more tortured, of course -- but that's Xy3!
Miserably prolix procedures, bizarre tricks, if you actually try to do
something substantial, you're out of memory before you can finish -- yuck.
This stuff is ancient history. I suggest that you read CTRLCHAR.TXT. It's
all there, from long ago, mid-1980s...
