Wasn't that a primitive macro facility available only in
Win 3.1? I remember being shocked, and I am shocked to this day, that the
loss of this macro facility did not cause the slightest concern when 95 was
introduced. Nor have I been able to find any reference to a program
anywhere that acts like a substitute. At that point, looking at the MacOS,
and AppleScript, I came to the conclusion that for people who wanted to do
intelligent automation of their computer environment, and who had succeeded
in doing this under DOS, there were nowhere to go but to the MacOS, which
was quite automatable, compared to Windows 9x or NT.
What's the current situation? Are there global macro or scripting programs
available for Windows 9x/NT? What about for Linux? Sheesh! if there is
*still* not even a keyboard/mouse movement recording facility available for
current versions of Windows, then that says a lot about the typical user
community. But surely there must be something? I must have just searched
incorrectly!
Separately, with regard to the earlier programming language queries, I know
some font technology people who are exceedingly enthusiastic about Python
and who have used it as the basis of RoboFog, which is a special version of
Fontographer 3.5.
