A 'rational number' is defined as a number which can be expressed as a
wrench which fits a Hudson Hornet, such as 5/8 or 9/16.
An 'irrational number' is not a wrench which fits a Hudson Hornet, such
as pi.
'Imaginary numbers' are the ones we need to make certain equations come
out right, such as mathematicians' bank statements.
BTW, infinities are not all the same size (density), either. There are
denumerable and non-denumerable infinities. Not that you'd need to know
which is which at the supermarket though.
