Re: XP & malware

Harry,

What kinds of problems did you have with Firefox and with which version? The later versions all work
flawlessly for me. The only problem I ever had was a conflict with ZoneAlarm Antivirus; it was
ZoneAlarm's fault and was corrected a day later. Not even a hint of a problem since I ditched
ZoneAlarm in favor of Avast!

Probably because I've never used Outlook and almost never used Internet Explorer, I can honestly say
that I never have had a problem with a computer virus, either with XP or with W98 before that. I
simply don't understand this concern about malware on XP unless you are being reckless by allowing
others to use your computer, opening email attachments without a measure of caution, or visiting
untrusted websites. Switch to Firefox, Thunderbird, and Open Office and you can dismiss the hype
about malware on XP as another Apple-fanboy fantasy!

Cheers,

I liked ver. 2. I'm using 5.0 and find it slow and that very often it ties up my machine (CPU 100%).

Seems like all good software peaks at versions 2 or 3. Except Xywrite, great as it is, made it to
IV.
What is the most recent reliable version of Firefox?

I'm still using Firefox 3.6. (I use Chrome, too, but on balance haven't found it as fast or as
reliable as Firefox.)  I've been reluctant to try one of the more recent versions of Firefox
because so many people have had difficulties with them.

It might be time to ditch IE in favor of Firefox, which is not only a better product, but more
importantly not dependent on the whims of MS. Third-party support for XP will be continuing for a
long time.
