Well, the problem then was that Vista wouldn't accept ANY icon
but the plain-piece-of-paper one for a DOS app until I discovered
Ed Mendelson's and Robert's workaround.
A further wrinkle on the scalable icon issue: I was originally
running Vista with the out-of-the-box screen fonts and icon
sizes. That was OK at my brother's, where the lighting
(California daylight for the most part) is much better. Here in
NJ, with incandescent lights, I found I needed something larger,
so went into Accessibility and upped the icon and Desktop font
size. The icon for cmd.exe didn't scale, though all the others
did: I'm seeing part of a letter c. It's recognizable, which is
all that matters, but seems to be further evidence that Big
Brother Bill REALLY doesn't want you using a command line.
Jeff, if you ever get the time, could you please post some tips
on getting Xy running on DOSemu under Linux? That's really the
way I WANT to go.
