What, precisely, is the command that causes the problem? Does it
happen with other commands as well? Anything unusual about the file
you're working on?
I'll try to catch and log the instances more precisely when they pop up.
Several of the cases from yesterday occurred during macros, so I can't
say for certain what command was involved. However, it also happened a
couple of times under a command like this (from the cmd line):
ci /{qst}W{qst}WR{note}
where W is the XyWrite W wildcard, R is the linefeed character, and <>
are programming brackets. (I have a paragraph with a "{qst}" tag at the
front, followed by an italicized sentence, which is the question,
followed by the rest of the paragraph, which is the answer. I'm trying to
split off the rest of the paragraph and put the tag "{note}" at the front
of it.)
In the end, I got the job done with a little program, but still. . . .

Gulp! Double-wildcards are the only reason for which I switch to Xy4
on occasion. Don't tell me now I have been practising unsafe computing!
I wouldn't worry about it as far as "safe computing" goes. Just save
early and often, and if you get the same behavior simply abort the file
and try again -- nothing lost except the past few minutes' work.
