For a newer version, go to

No it doesn't. I've just tried. All it does is intercept DOS deletes. It
won't do anything about deletes made by regular doze programs that don't
use the recycle bin (or that you've told to skip the recycle bin, something
I tried just now with Servant Salamander for research purposes). It won't
do anything about deletes made in Take Command. And pretty obviously it
won't do anything to help you if, seconds after emptying the recycle bin,
you realize that there was something vital therein.

Not that any of this concerns me. But I was interested in a free undelete
utility as many of my clients are, uh, severely "challenged" and have a
habit of "losing" things on the hard drives of the computers they're using.
(Many have no grasp of such concepts as "hard drive".)

A few months back, I used Take Command's DEL to zap a bunch of files -- and
immediately realized that the deletion had been a mistake. I guessed that
there was a reasonably priced Win9x-compatible undelete utility, or even a
free one. I guessed right: I downloaded, tried out, paid $25 for,
unlocked, and used "Recover4All" in a short time (or, if you prefer,
"period of time"). I'm glad I got it; I don't begrudge the man his $25.
(Take a look at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Kaus/ if interested.)

What surprises me, however, is that PC Rag doesn't seem to have got around
to producing anything similar. The cynic within me says that this might
somehow be related to the continuing appeal to the masses of Symantec's
"Norton" utilities, and Ziff-Davis' continuing ad revenue from Symantec.

So, for my impoverished/mean clients, can anyone come up with a
Win9x-understanding freebie undelete utility?
