If by "open a Word file" you mean get a formatted view of that file
without importing (i.e., converting) it -- forget it. No can do.
The reference here the other day was to using XyWrite --
specifically, Xy4 or later, which enables reading past the EOF
marker -- to view the raw contents of a Word document or any other
binary file, just to see what it says. To do that, you set default
1A to 1 and then open the file like any other, with a simple CAll
command or, better still, with READ/100 [filename], which opens a
read-only copy of the file in eXPanded view. Remember to set
default 1A back to the normal setting of 0 when you're done.
An easier option for Word .DOCs, if you load the XyWWWeb Jumbo U2,
is ImportMSWord [filename], which extracts the text portion
of the file and discards the binary junk.
