Invisible line break

Has anyone any ideas about if, and if so, how, it would be possible to
supply XyW with something analogous to WordPerfect's hyhenation soft
return? That is, a code or character that would permit a line to break at
a given point without either a space or a hyphen? Such an entity is
needed after en dashes and before or after em dashes. So far, the only
expedient I can think of is to take one of the non-printing Speedo
characters and define its width as zero in the printer file. But that
wouldn't work when printing to the Windows driver in XyWin. I at least
could live with a very narrow space, since I hardly ever justify type,
but I've tried the en space (261) and numeric space (271) in the Speedo
set, and they're too wide.
