I couldn't agree more. FWIW, the HTML equivalents of the principal accented
characters in French are:

e w/ acute accent = é
E w/ acute accent = É
e w/ grave accent = è
c w/ cedilla = ç
a w/ circumflex = â
e w/ circumflex = ê
i w/ circumflex = î
o w/ circumflex = ô
O w/ circumflex = Ô
u w/ grave accent = ù
