SPEECH DEVICE

In message 2504 you spoke of problems of the deaf. I am not deaf, but the
telephone problem may be similar. I have a bad speech impediment as a result
of a stroke. People who know me well can understand most of what I say on the
phone, but some words don't get across. Of course this difficulty is much
greater with people who aren't used to my speech.
I understand that several manufactures make inexpensive speech synthesizers
that connect to a serial port. One kind is said to have a speaker that could
be put near a phone, and (I assume) be used to "speak" typed messages or words
that are causing a problem. Another kind is said to plug into a modem.
I am trying to get information about these devices. Do you know anything about
them?
