It's always convenient to blame computer problems on user error, not on the
software or operating system. That way of thinking is even more ludicrous
when we're dealing with the XyWrite program, whose bugginess is what keep
this list server alive, and Windows.
But, let's not forget that the reason I brought this issue to the list was
because I had a real problem for the first time with a logon request that
had never arisen before I installed Xy 4.018 and ran it on either Windows 98
or, more probably, on 2000. Even when I removed a line from startup.int, the
program continued to freeze.
My startup.int file has never contained a LOGON line as in Robert's d:\path
to *.LOG. Instead, it contains BX LOGIN JIMQ2 ;*;, which I noted in the
message that started this discussion. I assume that line was created when I
first installed Xy 4.* years ago. So is the suggestion now that I remove
this line from startup and add nothing in its place?
