It is hard to make suggestions about out-of-memory messages without
knowing about your hardware, available memory when you boot, free
memory in Windows, etc. My system, *right after* I load XYDOS,
usually shows about 78KB free, but if I shell to DOS and return (a
small XPL program does it automatically), the free memory returns to
about 380KB.

A real but not always obtrusive shortcoming of XY is poor memory
management, so that free memory tends to get down below 100KB as you
work. I run the same little program periodically before carrying out
operations that require much memory (large block copies, etc.). You
can do it simply by saving all files, doing "DOS" on the command line,
and at the DOS prompt, typing "EXIT".
