In my experience, W2K was the most stable OS from which to run XY3+.
If you intend to run nothing else but XY in that environment, then run
with it (real or virtual).

Any issues with real W2K were long since resolved at this forum. Any
remaining issues regarding virtual W2K will resolve to

a) hardware issues on the host system (such as USB printer ports,
networking, or 'seeing' the host file system) or

b) be part of the virtualization environment (VM-ware options, shares,
etc.)

in neither case will the issues be specific to XY.
