While it's true that the "Good Times virus" is a complete hoax,
intended to strike terror on Compuserve, and while it's true that
you probably *cannot* acquire anything infectious or damaging in
simple ascii text email, there is one caveat:

More and more, we are using email attachments (MIME etc.) that
are binary, thus carrying the potential of infection. If you
have any reason to be cautious (critical operations on your
machine, unknown origin of the attachment, general paranoia),
make sure these decoded attachments go to a safe place where you
can scan them for viri before giving them a home on your hard
drive...
