Re: SWITCHING TO NOTA BENE

Bill,

This will be an answer to the Xy issue, but won't address the other issues I raised, regarding this XP-running computer that was really the first of my (relatively modern) desktop systems to be very well equipped with the kind of apps I use all the time.  XP is much preferred for them, and while taking that rig offline is an option, it's far from the most appealing one.  It would be better if this one could have a second life, *intact*, as a VM.

I don't know if something like Norton (gave up on their AV products a long time ago) would be sufficient.  I'm an AVAST! Free user myself.  [Prompted by the barrage of ads they've been running on tv, slamming the established AV vendors and making lofty claims for their own product, I did some digging in regard to "PC-Matic."  My immediate reaction to their ads was "BS!  There's a good reason I've never heard of these guys."  Sure enough, as I suspected, their user reviews are mostly TERRIBLE.]

From everything I have read, I suspect you will be happier scaling the extremely minor technical hurdles necessary to get Win2K onto Win 7 or 8.1, using VMware. I'm going to do a step-by-step on this within the next few days.
