I've kept quiet because I wasn't sure of the purpose of this discussion,
but perhaps my two cents' worth may be a contribution after all.
When I was using Pine (probably a primitive version now superseded?) to
receive e-mail and wanted to save incoming mails as XyWrite text files, I
had trouble with intrusive ASCII 10s which didn't respond to a simple ci
.[10].. command. Someone suggested that I could just call each file up in
DOS (with the DOS command "edit [filename]") and then save the file under a
new filename: it worked like a charm. No doubt I would now prefer some of
the XPL programs that have been put forward here, but if they don't suit
someone ...
And if this is completely off-topic because I haven't understood the topic,
well, I haven't run across the problem either so no harm done :-)
Cheers
