Right! I'd switch totally to Linux before I'd even think of
switching to windoz of whatever flavor. As much as I love OS/2, I
like Xwindows on Linux even more. The Motif interface and the new
Great! GUI is particularly appealing. The only thing that stopped
me before is that XY (and other DOS apps) doesn't work
particularly well in the DOS emulator -- or maybe I just haven't
spent enough time trying -- but I'm sure that will get better.
And if there aren't going to be any further upgrades of XY
(except for windoz) than I'll definitely have to look further
afield.
Plus, GNU has just announced they are porting Openstep -- the NExtStep
GUI -- to OS/2, and that is will be not only free, but will allow all
Nextstep apps to run under OS/2, so that definitely widens the
field. And since XY won't be running on the PowerPC, except in
DOS emulation, then something else certainly must be found. Maybe
I should just spend a week this summer playing with emacs and
LaTeX.
