Crashing / Memory problems

There's been some mention recently of XyDOS crashing...

After I upgraded by computer to a Cyrix P150+ (from P75)
and 48 megs RAM (from 16), my computer started crashing
with some frequency with Xy 4.017. It was most likely to
happen when loading Xy and when moving or copying large
blocks of text.

Last week I discovered that the problem disappears (so far!)
if I disable (in the ROM BIOS) all features which shadow or other-
wise copy BIOS code into RAM. (I think I also diabled CPU
cashing in RAM --- ??)  I haven't yet tried adding back
features to see what causes the problem. (I also haven't
noticed any degradation of performance, either...)
