This is not a perfect solution to the problem of importing MSWord v8
documents into XyWrite, but I've received an increasing number of these
really annoying documents lately, especially in Emails (the nerve of this
assumption!), and here's my fix (it requires the Jumbo XyWWWeb U2 file, or
the individual DEL26 routine from XyWWWeb).
CAll the MSWord doc into XyWrite. Usually I just see a few high Ascii
characters, and then a blank page. Command "del26", which
replaces the first Ascii-26 in the file with an Ascii-5 (spade symbol).
That usually reveals the entire document. Rubout the high Ascii garbage
and you can read the text, corrections and all (which was extremely
embarrassing to the sender in today's instance; he'd revised his prices
upward, several times).
