Re: Stopping USB drives from XY4

If I do this in Windows 2000 it doesn't switch off power to the USB drive and when I remove the

When you click on My Computer, is the Flash drive listed under Drives
with removable media? (i.e., in the same grouping with floppies, CDs,
and ZIPs--if any) Or doesn't 2K do that sort of grouping? (9x doesn't,
XP does; don't have easy access to a 2K system). It almost sounds as if
Windows doesn't know that'a a removable-medium drive. How is it ID'd in
Device manager?
One other thing: I don't know if this happens in more advanced versions
of Windows, but in 98 if one boots the PC with a flash drive plugged it,
it will usurp the drive letter assignment of the CD, and then its own
proper drive letter assignment will be reported as invalid. (Things can
get even hairier if you're using Iomega's ZIP disk drivers, but even 98
SE, if patched with the last SP, can recognize ZIP disks and doesn't
need them.)
