rejoining the list

I've rejoined this list, inspired in part by a sense of deep gratitude
toward a handy printer file I found on xywwweb (thank you, Robert
Holmgren!) and also because I, too, am involved in what Patricia Godfrey
in a recent message called "a complicated game of musical chairs." CPUs
and printers play the tunes in this game, and the dissonance can be
atrocious.

I've wanted to consult the archives for printer questions; many such have
no doubt come up ad nauseum. I've tried XySearch but haven't been able to
get a connection for three or four days. Jordan mentioned this problem in
some of his messages. Do Carl or Robert know when the search engine will
be back up? After all, I've missed over three years of conversation, and
my memory for these things isn't good anyway.

I left this list toward the end of 1999 because I was feeling overwhelmed
by the general volume of my E-mail. Now I'm still swamped, but I've
gotten used to it. I've never stopped using XyWrite. My 333-page book
(2001) fit on one floppy diskette. No one could believe it.
