Re: Getting Xy4Dos Up & Running on T61 with XP-Pro

The use you can get out of U2 will be much more limited in Dosbox.
Printing will also be a problem in Dosbox; in my experience you have to
print to file (a PS or PDF file, for example) and then print that file
-- *but my experience is based on using Dosbox a little in Linux (I
prefer Dosemu, so I really don't use Dosbox much).

If you end up sticking with Dosbox and you can't get print from Dosbox,
in WinXP you might be able to fully automate printing from Dosbox using
PrintFile and Ghostscript by following the instructions at
http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/anyprinter.html,
modifying the Wordperfect specific instructions for XyWrite and using
POSTGHST.PRN or another appropriate Xy4 printer file. A few years back I
got it to work, but I found that I had to install Ghostscript in C:/GS,
rather than C:/Program Files/GS. It's kludgy but works (or, at least,
worked for me).

As an evasion have you tried installing either Tame or Dosbox, and running Xy4 from one or the other? You'll lose some functionality under Dosbox, but it may be better than no XyWrite at all on the road. Paul Lagasse
