Installing new printer drivers in XyDOS or XyWin

Can the collective wisdom advise me on a snag?

I've been unable to use "reinstall" to add a printer driver from my
original floppy disks of Xy4 DOS and/or XyWin.

I'm running an Intel 486 in Windows 3.1 and DOS 6. I've just acquired a
Citizen ABC24 dot-matrix printer as a cheap alternative to my HP LaserJet
5L, intending to use the two printers in alternation -- saving the HP for
"real" printouts but switching to the Citizen when printing yet another of
my endless revisions of work in progress (the aim would be to economize
both on toner and -- by dot-printing on the backs of scrap laser-printed
sheets -- on paper).

When I tried to install the proprietary Citizen ABC24 driver (for Win3.x)
from the floppy supplied with the printer, it locked up XyWin (and somehow
disabled certain keystrokes in my keyboard file in XyDOS 4, though the rest
of XyDOS still worked OK!). I solved the lockup problem (and the keyboard
problem) by deleting the text that the Citizen floppy had added after
"device..." in \XW\XWUIF.UIF; but now I don't have a driver for this
printer.

The manual lists various drivers that the Citizen printer is compatible
with, starting with its own Win3.x driver and going through a few Epson and
IBM emulations. I'm pretty sure at least one of these is old enough to have
been included in the printer options with XyDOS 4.015 and/or XyWin 4.12J.

In XyWin, the "run A:install" command in Windows Program Manager didn't
work: with the first XyWin floppy in the A drive, what came up was the
setup menu for my video driver, and I didn't know how to (as it were) get
past it.

In trying to add a DOS driver from the XyDOS 4.015 floppies, I got a "DOS
critical error" message and had to quit before starting to install.

Could either/both of these problems be related to a familiar hangup
discussed on this list -- that CD drives etc. have to be rem'd out or they
will interfere with XyW installation?

Thanks.
