BX vs. BC

Robert and Carl long ago asked why I thought BC had to be used instead of
BX in some cases. The earlier cases where BX didn't seem to work all
involved my not realizing the difference between how Xy3 and Xy4 handles
literals on the command line (with regard to three-byte and five-byte
characters).
But here's one that surprised me. To open a file from the directory, on
which a cursor is situated, you can use BC caXC but not BX caQ2.
A (possibly inept) search of XySearch turned up nothing on this. I entered
in the search field
BX caQ2
with and without surrounding quotes and got no hits. Have I discovered
something new?
