Ok, let's see -- think think think -- what to do? Hey, I've got it! Install U2! That will work. Golly, it only takes a few minutes. It's harmless, too. XS means eXtractString. It's a parsing mechanism, for tearing strings apart into left$s, mid$s, and right$s. Consult the manual for more. It's one of the most fundamental XPL tools. I'm afraid you're not going to be able to create an "illegal" 3-byte character like [255+070+070] without access to U2 -- not easily anyway. But those are the three constituent bytes of the character, represented in 1-byte character codes. No, wait: that's a *common* 3-byte char, a 3-byte 255. So to make it you just hold down [whatever, Ctrl+Alt on my kbd] key combination and then hit 2-5-5 on your keypad. I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope reconstructing that macro manually, though. Everything has got to be "just so". I'll attach them to this msg. What version of Xy3 do you use? ----------------------------- Robert Holmgren holmgren@xxxxxxxx -----------------------------Attachment: TMP2L.TMP
