Swiss Army Knives

Well, some are better than others. My Leatherman Wave is certainly a great
tool. Its purpose is NOT to be as good or better than the equivalent tools.
Its purpose is to collect, in a six-ounce package, tools that are competent
given their portability. And they do an admirable job: extremely sharp knife
blades, comforable handles, a variety of screwdriver blades, a pair of
scissors, a wood saw, two files, a can opener, etc. Certainly there must be
some software that is analogous; maybe some of the "works" packages. MS
Office or MS Word seems to be more like my tool bucket: a collection of
tools, some very good, some so-so, that weighs a ton, is somewhat haphazardly
organized, and is brought out only for major projects.
