Re: Testing printing with vDosXy 500

Hi Kari,

At the risk of my appearing dense, I want to make sure that I am following you here.
Presumably, any fonts must be present in and supported by the particular printer -- but we can also assume that any HP printer, inkjet or laser, already has more than a few of these.  Then, it is down to what happens to be covered in the printer file.  These Xy-4 printer files for vDos have Courier, Dutch, and Swiss; so, that's all one can have for use, regardless of any other Speedo fonts we may have.  With Xy-3, we have a choice of CG Times, Courier, Univers, and Lineprinter.  Therefore, if I am seeing anomalous printing results, there must be mistakes in the formatting of my sample documents.

Is it possible you could provide some sample printing test sheets (which can be fairly brief), for Xy-3 and Xy-4, which have the correct formatting, and yield known results ?  That can help me straighten this out.  I'd like to be able to print out sample font & size options, akin to what you often get as a built-in laser or inkjet sample page.  The files would offer guidance on where I seem to have gone wrong.  (The ASCIITBL.TXT file seems to have come out fine, on a couple of different printers that I tried.)

Regards,

Jordan

Jordan,

If the print system does not find a match, it gives you the default font
(if anything else has not been already been specified at a particular
point in the file, already specified attributes may continue to be in
effect as void commands do not stop them). The default font is defined
at the beginning of the file: DF PT=10 (= 10-pitch Courier).
